Kumu Michelle Manu is not only a 10th Degree Black Belt but also holds the esteemed title of Alihikaua (General) and Kumu Lua (teacher) of Lua, representing the evolved indigenous Hawaiian cultural practice and warrior art. She is currently the only high-ranking female teacher of this art and the only public representative of a Hawaiian woman warrior in over two centuries.

With a background as a professional Polynesian Hula dancer and choreographer, Kumu Manu infuses the grace and precision of Hula into her teachings of Lua. Her unique approach emphasizes timing, balance, placement, and micro-body movements, making her an unparalleled authority in close-quarters combat.

But Kumu Manu's expertise extends far beyond the martial arts realm.
As a legal professional for over twenty-seven years, she holds a Juris Doctorate, business credentials from George Washington University, senior executive leadership credentials from Harvard Business School, and a master’s degree in Metaphysical Science.
Additionally, she is a candidate for a PhD in Philosophy with an emphasis on personal transformation.

Kumu Manu has been featured in numerous publications and has received prestigious awards, including being inducted into the Martial Arts History Museum Hall of Fame and the Masters Hall of Fame.
She has also been recognized as the Woman of the Year by the Kenpo International Association.
